  • What is the difference between coaching and mentoring?
Mentoring may include advising and counselling. There may be a level of hierarchy or a different level of experience of which the advising and counselling is based on. The coaching process does not include advising or counselling, and focuses instead on individuals or groups setting and reaching their own objectives through a thought provoking and creative process that inspires the client/s to maximise their potential.
  • What is the difference between coaching and therapy?
While both offer a safe, trusted, non judgemental and confidential environment, therapy is able to focus psychological issues, challenges and experiences whereas a coaching relationship involves a partnership of equals. It is goal orientated, a thought provoking creative process with a coach enabling a client to maximise their personal and professional potential. In coaching: The client will set not only the goals but the agenda for each session and is ultimately responsible for progress It generally focuses on the here and now and what the gap/s, challenges and limiting beliefs might be It may involve focus on gaining clarity, empowering through self reflection, visioning and growth, activating the relevant coaching resources and tools The coach and client work together to chart a plan towards the clients desired goals Therapy emphasizes psychopathology, emotions and the past to understand the present, and it works more with developing skills for managing emotions or past issues than does coaching.
